A workshop with the Sámi communities in Inari
On 20 February 2025, DIGICHer organised a workshop with the Sámi communities in Inari (Finland) to explore their needs, opinions and wishes related to digitisation of their cultural heritage. The workshop was attended by a group of community representatives selected from those connected with the Sámi communities, culture and digital cultural heritage.
The workshop used several exploratory design tools:
Panel discussion (general ideas and thoughts about the topic, feelings, possibilities, threats)
Idea map
Evaluation map (of suggestions for a digitising project)ry
The design tools used were:
Panel discussion (general ideas and thoughts about the topic, feelings, possibilities, threats)
Idea map
Evaluation map (of suggestions for a digitising project)
The tools are collaborative activities(discussion and production of written texts) led by the research team that provided valuable data to:
Capture the community's general sentiment towards digitisation and understand the community's perception of its cultural heritage and identity.
Understand the needs, desires, fears, visions, and hopes the community has for the future of its cultural heritage.
Understand what resources and skills the community can use to support and develop pilot projects.
The outputs of the workshops will be used to inform DIGICHer's next steps towards developing a framework that promotes equity, inclusion and diversity in the representation of digital cultural content.
